Mesobs is hand woven basket with elaborate designs and decorations that are used to store various items from jewelry to food. A food storage mesob is between 2 – 3 feet high. This is used to store (injere), a flat Ethiopian staple bread that plays a vital role in Ethiopian dishes. It’s also used to store the traditional home-made bread and it sometimes serves as a food serving table. Mesob are predominantly woven by women and can be seen doing this beautiful craft in the trading cells at the main market (Markato). Mesobs comes in 2 basic shapes circle and oval with the the most basic Ethiopian design color derived from their national flag green, yellow and red.
